El Convento Boutique Hotel
2.ª Avenida norte # 11
Tel.: (502) 7720-7272
Situated under the gaze of three magnificent volcanoes, the city of Antigua Guatemala is a wonderful sight. Both lasting and fragile, historical though up-to-date, Antigua combines native and European cultures. Its contrastive beauty can be seen everywhere: from its monumental baroque 16th century churches to its fine fabrics, wood carving and lively orchids.
El Convento Boutique Hotel is located on one of Antigua's famous cobblestone streets, opposite to the legendary 18th century convent of Capuchinas. Starting from this sanctuary, the visitor can discover the city's magnificent sites.
At the hotel, guests will find an intimate and calm atmosphere. Rooms are disposed around a central charmed garden, with a centenary tempisque, a typical tree of this region. The hotel has 26 spacious suites, with sumptuous bed clothes and cedar beamed ceiling.
In each room, a relaxing decor combines neutral colors with a strong local touch, hand-sewn textiles and refined sculptures and art pieces.
El Cardenal Restaurant
An exceptional cook, chef Arlene Meneses, performing at El Cardenal Restaurant and El Campanario Lounge, gives simple dishes a subtle touch that makes all the difference. Whether it be the corn cream with chipilín leaf or the home vinaigrette sauce with toasted pepitoria that awakens the senses, Arlene adds to her dishes spices, fruits and flowers from the Antigua area.
Such is the case of the güicoy-filled raviolis in loroco sauce, where the soufflé-like texture of the güicoy becomes more fragrant thanks to the loroco flowers. Her traditional Guatemalan dishes, like jocón, pepián and Kaq ik, slowly and delicately prepared, are a worthy tribute to old times recipes.
The excellent menu plus a well-stocked wine cellar and a variety of award-winning teas and coffees make El Cardenal a delightful place.
