It was back in 1979 when the Executive Committee of the Panamerican Surety Association created a prize to encourage the presentation of papers related to bonds. The contest was originally biennial and available only to officers and employees of member companies. Along the years, PASA authorities decided to open the contest to university students and professionals related to the sector, to cover credit insurance and reinsurances, and to make it annual.
Since 1994 the contest has been named "Carlos Dupont Award", in memory of PASA's Permanent Secretary for many years, who promoted and defended it with great enthusiasm.
